Lifted the following at the Zoo. Sorry if it's already been posted here. El Waiting in line for a long time. Getting shuffled from counter to counter. Yes, renewing your driver's license can be a dreadful experience. But thanks to Compaq, Maryland residents will soon be able to get their license from one counter – in less than five minutes. The state of Maryland recently selected Compaq Professional Services (PS) to implement a new system that will automate and streamline record keeping and improve fraud detection. In addition, the new system will be Web-enabled for future expansion to Internet-based licensing.
The $40 million win includes $38 million in Professional Services (PS) and $2 million in Compaq desktop PCs and ProLiant servers. Considered one of the most significant services projects in the U.S. Southeast, the win was a double victory over Polaroid (the incumbent driver's license vendor) and Lockheed Martin (incumbent IT services provider and largest employer in the state.) Craig McCarter, PS Seller, credits a top-notch technical solution and a personable and professional team headed by Rebecca Haven, Account Manager, for the win. "Despite the odds, Compaq remained confident and proud of our abilities and successes and communicated this positive attitude to the selection committee," Craig says. The solution -- successfully implemented previously by PS for the state of Florida -- includes integrated digital cameras, card printers, point-of-sale terminals, databases, advanced biometrics and other strategies. It will be a welcome change for Maryland drivers, who until now had to wait in line at three or four different counters to get a driver's license because business processes couldn't be integrated with the state's 30-year-old licensing information system.
