Stan: There's three levels: Plain vanilla requires $100k or 12 trades/year + $10k Gold requires $500k or 24 trades/year + $25k Platinum requires $1M or 48 trades/year + $50k With Platinum, you get a 20% discount off all non-web stock trades subject to various minimums. 20% off of all option trades subject to minimums. Web based option trades are 36% off subject to minimums. With all 3 services you also get access to a bunch of research (Market Guide, S&P reports, etc.), web based conference calls with some CEOs, etc. etc. Details can be found under 'accounts & services' at their web site. FWIW, I just moved a chunk of assets out due to poor web performance and deteriorating customer support. My team was good (I was assigned by request to their options team) but the web support I found well below historical Schwab standards. I just didn't feel it was worth paying extra commissions for service that was no better, and maybe worse, than what other brokers offer.
