MSFT has already stated that they would be supporting LINUX in various forms. Overall, its C-code or some variation thereof. It should not be that difficult (which of course can be considered an "operative" word) to tweak office so that it can run as a native LINUX product if MSFT chooses to go down that path.

Some were just questioning why MSFT needs more than a few billion dollars in operating funds available. They need it for things like LINUX, to provide them with the flexibility. If MSFT develops it, and it doesn't become significant then that is just a cost of doing business in high techdom. On the other hand, if MSFT does nothing and LINUX does grow then it has potentially weakend itself. Complacency=Replacement
