Ok, but how do you counter the charges that the studies on spanking are flawed due to selection bias? That it's possible that parents who spank are different than parents who don't spank, or kids who are spanked started out different than kids who weren't spanked?

And then there are those who argue that researchers are lumping together parents who "swat" and parents who "beat."

I don't think you've got a problem with selection bias when analyzing the relative effects of bullets vs. nerfballs on the cranium.
