Curtis, you are correct about the new generation networks. You are forgetting to mention that these new companies like LVLT, QWST,Winstar, KMC telecom, DBN, and several others are being built by LU, NT and so called old world guys in Chambers language.

Here is one example of such a deal. Did you read this before. You need to survey your sorroundings before jumping to conclusion that new world is synonymous with Cisco. Not necessarily true.
Once again Cisco will be in good shape, but not what wall street expects. Their place is at the edge, selling LAN switches, edge routers and switches etc.

Story 3308 DJ Level 3/Pact -2: To Buy Lucent Tech's SoftSwitches >LVLT
BROOMFIELD, Colo. (Dow Jones)--Level 3 Communications Inc. (LVLT) confirmed
it plans to acquire Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) equipment for a minimum of
four years.
The agreement is worth about $250 million.
In a press release Wednesday, Level 3 Communications said the contract's
value has a potential to increase to $1 billion over a five-year period.
As reported earlier, Level 3 Communications was expected to announce that it
agreed to purchase $1 billion in Lucent Technologies equipment over five
years.
Level 3 Communications agreed to acquire Lucent Technologies' systems
including softswitches, a Bell Labs-developed software switch for Internet
protocol networks.
Level 3 and Lucent Technologies also agreed to collaborate on future
enhancements of softswitches and gateway products to support next-generation
broadband services.
Level 3 Communications is a communications and information services company.
