TRW going commercial, eh?

Maybe it's time to start following them more closely. Their major markets have been space/defense and automotive, not commercial telecom. I assume this is why they didn't just keep it all in-house. Instead, they licensed the MBE technology to RFMD and took an equity position (they still have 18%). So, they benefit indirectly from RFMD's commercial GaAs device sales. The stock has done well, thanks to the bubble, and they've cashed out some of their gains. Not too shabby, and none of the headaches of actually running the business. Plus, it's still their technology.

Now, demand for ever-higher bandwidth makes InP more feasible for commercial apps. It looks like this time they plan to go for the commercial market themselves. They go way back with InP, don't they?

Unlike Conexant/Kopin, TRW has both wafer AND device capability.
