Norman, sounds like your short term moves have been similar in success to mine. Timing indexes is one thing, timing stocks is another. One approach that is somewhat intriguing to me is "shorting against the box" where you you basically "freeze" your position. Take a stock like GRNO, it rallies to $10 a share, you're up a bunch and then you see profit taking set in. If you short the stock (and keep your long position at the same time) even though you believe the intermediate term looks attractive to the upside, you can hedge against that correction, basically locking in the $10 or perhaps 9 or 8 dollars a share. I've never tried this, but I know others who swear by it. Of course, if I were to try it, the stock would probably double the day I did it! Good luck.
