RE: The performance of DELL has been directly related to performance that is lower than expectations. If you go back to 1997 or 1996 and look at the earnings estimates at the beginning of the year, you would note that the analysts were usually about half the actual year end results. When 1999 rolled around, people had the same expectation that the average estimate in the range of 72½ to 77½ would be similarly low. As it turns out, DELL most probably will be in the lower end of that range when Jan '00 earnings are announced. The company has underperformed expectations, and the stock has reacted accordingly.

What DELL management has been doing this past year weighs far more heavily with me than the actual numbers...The numbers have still proven that DELL is the only PC company that will make money in this sector...GTW is doing well now...but, I wouldn't underestimate what DELL could do to them when DELL decides to target them..(Tom Meredith has told us that DELL is capable of "pushing anyone whenever they wish to") ....DELL's cost being half of what the others are...IMO the future of the others is in doubt...I've been told that "CPQ is far worse off than anyone suspects"....Cost wise DELL's efficiency which is going down even further will win continue to pressure the others...this I believe caused CPQ to make a fatal mistake with DEC....and IMO DELL capitalized on this for the first two quarters...Yes, DELL didn't grow at the 50%plus ...but, something far more valuable was gained...
And, the turning of this company's revenue growth this year is something I become more and more amazed with daily.....I hold this stock long and will continue to so....I anxiously await some of these plans coming to fruition...I know they require a long planning period and am prepared to wait...
Many have been able to trade this company this year purely because of this perception and misperception....Patience is of importance to the longs...Our past has spoiled many of us...Yet, DELL is in no way finished from gaining market share ...If anything they are preparing to steal more than ever...
