German tourist number one million welcomed in Tunisia

Tunis 11 December 1999 (TunisiaOnline)

German tourist Renate Mai received no
ordinary welcome when she arrived at Tunis
Carthage airport Friday afternoon aboard a
scheduled TunisAir flight from Hamburg. He
was greeted by a top level
welcome party including Tunisia's minister of
Tourism, Leisure and Handicraft Slaheddine
Maaoui, TunisAir chairman Abdelmalek
Laarif, German Ambassador in Tunis Dietmar
Kreusel and a host of other dignitaries.

She was also showered with gifts and
souvenir.

The reason for this exceptional welcome is
that Mrs. Mai is no ordinary visitor. She is
the German tourist number one million to
visit Tunisia this Year. More than 1,025.000 Germans are expected to visit Tunisia in
1999, a 16% increase compared to 1998. An additional 10% increase is expected in
the year 2000.

The increase in the number of German visitors is part of an upward trend in the overall
number of foreign tourists visiting Tunisia. For the first time, the number of tourists of
all nationalities is expected to top the 5 million mark.
