[Chat: Westwood vs. Berkeley]

<<<I'll take B anyday. have you been back recently?
As long as you stick to the right areas (solano,
college, etc) and avoid telegraph/downtown, its
great. THe new 4th st area is fantastic. And there
are no malls!!>>>

j:

Wish I'd read this last night. I just got back from B. with my daughter and I feel like something the cat drug in. Telegraph St. is Union Square, Market Street and Haight-Ashbury all rolled into one. The Beat Generation retrofitted to crass commercialism. Ah, well, I'm sure Baez and Dylan both drive Bentleys.

We walked nearly every inch of the campus and even took a hike up Moss Woods behind the rugby field and baseball diamond. If you've never done it, I suggest hiking boots. Now, of course, I'm looking for information on Craftsman style architecture. I hadn't realized Berkeley had so many examples from that era.

As for Linds, she liked the campus but will opt for UCLA and Westwood. From my perspective it seemed like a toss of a coin. They're both great institutions and neither will make or break her. That was probably set a birth.

[Mel's has good milkshakes.]

Cheers!

Pat
