Or, in layman's terms, blindness,

I have some fairly serious retinal problems so I have always been interested in diabetes. When I went into the hospital they always asked if I was a diabetic first thing... once I recall they brought me the diabetic menu anyway - I mean as if hospital food isn't bad enough, a special menu besides.

But anyway what I never could determine is whether eating more processed sugar actually had an effect on diabetes (whether you got it or not). Likewise grains, etc. Will you be changing your diet in order to lose weight, the weight being the primary concern, or is the diet itself the issue...

BTW apparently eye diseases are a symptom of diabetes but it isn't the other way around - so I don't have any predisposition to diabetes but I have one heck of a sweet tooth and it always concerned me.

Edit - oh I see Justin recommended a book on various foods that probably answers my questions. I'll check it out.
