The OPTI Firestar is K6-compatible. OPTI does not expect much business in K6 desktops since AMD has its own chipset. The business will be in K6 notebooks (when the K6 for notebooks comes out) and lower cost Pentium machines out of Asia. AMD has its own desktop K6 chipset but, like Intel, does not appear to have a low-power, single-chip notebook chipset with anything like the features of the OPTI chip. Firestar has a lot of design wins (more than OPTI has announced). The notebook K6 and Pentium markets should pick up for OPTI later this year. The key desktop core logic chip for OPTI is Vendetta. OPTI is expecting an announcement from a major OEM by mid May for motherboard use of this chip. OPTI is also expecting big volumes from its 935 Audio chip, due later in the year. Right now OPTI gets 40% of its revenue from audio chips. The 935 is expected to be a major advance and get a lot of business.
