In fact, overall, the technology Qtera uses requires more (not less) optical components and hence is good for the component suppliers.

*optical switches
*high-power source lasers
*pump lasers for Raman amplifications
*high-performance modulators
*passives to compensate for signal degradation
*980 pumps
*EDFAs
JDS Uniphase produces or is developing all of these produces.

Companies like QTERA that are expanding the applications for WDM should create an enormous new market for fiber-optic components."
