Nick likes to make stuff, too. He came home with a package about three inches square, all wrapped in masking tape, which he says is instant confetti, it's all the little circles of paper from the three-hole punch at school. He's going to cut it open midnight, December 31.

Guys like you just love to make things, I can tell that the act of creation is something you get pleasure from, but it's as natural as breathing to you. A lawyer I used to share space with used to discuss his children with me, in particular a daughter who decided she wanted to be an artist, and wanted him to send her to art school. I've known a few artists in my time, and I told him, I don't think art school will make her an artist if she isn't one already, it will just help her learn new techniques. Artists can't be stopped, they create with whatever's at hand, if they can't get what they like best. If she were cut out to be an artist, you'd know it already.

I've got a really good scanner, but it's hooked up to the kids computer, and now we need a good color printer. Maybe I should get one as a Christmas present.
