This still leaves us in a situation which seems very close to children being the property of their parents. You may have addressed this issue in a different post--I am many hundreds of posts behind. But I do not understand why the interest of older family members hurting children is more protected than the right of children to grow up without being hurt, unless there is an assumed property right. This state of affairs does not consider the interest of society as a whole to rear healthy generations of children. Being a libertarian, I can see that this might dovetail with your other political beliefs, however.
