This depends on how you are defining high maternal warmth and strictness. Imagine how confusing it must be that the nurturing figure who protects and cuddles the child also hurts it? This is outside my definition of warmth of any sort.

I have a lot of friends who grew up in ethnic households and were treated harshly and felt absolutely terrorized there, and are happy to have escaped with their lives, and treat their children entirely differently. They definitely would not understand your concept of warmth.
