Christine, not sure if you are saying you are a libertarian, or that Neo is. I don't think he is, that's why he calls himself Neocon, it's short for neoconservative.

I think the libertarian perspective on children is that they are volitional individuals, with individual rights which should be respected. It is immoral to initiate the use of force on another human being, except to protect yourself, and others. So, unless spanking serves as a protective act, in some way, it's immoral. That, at least, is how I would analyze it from a libertarian perspective.
