To be honest, it was one of the better decisions they made. They'd never have made as much taking AV public on their own....CMGI gives it cachet. AV is a dying product, and CPQ got a premium for it. Owning as much of CMGI as they do, they still benefit from the IPO.
AV isn't likely to survive the upcoming consolidation. It will either die, or be swallowed at less than a premium.
