Sorry, Edwarda, but you have lost me entirely. You were giving phoney, made up examples of very ineffective ways to discipline children that no actual good parent would use, suggesting that parents who don't spank are ninnies, really. You then made a huge logical leap to suggest that those same parents might simply observe a child who was endangering himself by being in a window at great heights throwing things on pedestrians far below, instead of removing the child, and that parents who would hit this child instead of firmly prohibiting the behavior were exhibiting better parenting skills.

Now you are alleging that parents who have the "luxury" of childproofing their houses and supervising their children so that they don't kill themselves in falls from open windows are somehow overprivileged, and implying that the real world is quite harsh and dangerous. Really? In America? And even if that were the case, is that a justification for making reality harsher by slapping your children?

I do have sufficient imagination to clearly visualize what a complex knot you must have twisted yourself into to become so illogical, even though I do not drink Chardonnay. What I cannot imagine is your motive for doing so. It almost seems masochistic.
