I have no desire to argue the merits of Rands philosophy here. I've never felt a compelling need to validate any of my beliefs by attempting to convert others.
In your view, I am spiritually dead. This is true. Religion, of any flavor, means nothing to me. Never has. Never will. I enjoy life and don't fear death.
If you are correct in your beliefs, I would encourage you, after we both croak, to send me a fax down to the brimstone and flames with an admonishment of "I told you so". I am sure that at that time I will be full of contrition. Meanwhile, I certainly won't spend any sleepless nights worrying about the possibility.
On the other hand, consider the alternative. Maybe when you die, Emile, you'll really be gone for good. Nothing left. Zilch. Nada. Why does that thought terrify you? I consider that scenario by far and away the most likely to occur. Then again, there's always the Hale Bopp spaceship to consider. Hmmm... |
