I'd be willing to bet if you dug deep enough into any company's history or the personal lives of those that manage the companies you would find something which would be considered cause for not using the company'ss services or products.

This idea that Wal-Mart is somehow the demon that has ruined small town america is a bit short-sighted, imo. (I hate to use this particular form of phrasing because you might consider it insulting, yet I am unable at the time of the post to make the desired intention more diplomatic. I apologize in advance.). Wasn't Sears implementing a similar business plan in terms of expansion, and couldn't one have purchased items at its stores more cheaply than at "home town" merchants? Many companies whose growth is based on expansion have taken the same road as Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart has simply done it a lot better.

You said you shop at Costco didn't you? Couldn't you instead shop at a grocer whose livelihood would be far healthier if you shopped with them. Also, doesn't Costco sell other items as well? Do you never buy items at Costco which you could buy elsewhere even though the price would be higher? AND, what is it Costco sells which you can return to have repaired after it starts wearing out? Can't at Wal-Mart. Therefore this opens up an area where Wal-Mart is deficient.....services geared towards maintenace.

You also didn't address the issue of employees of small business, the owners of which cannot afford to pay health insurance let alone contribute in some meaningful way to some type of retirement benefits. I happen to be in just such a situation where I'm employed. We get two weeks of paid vacation to use anyway we want, and all the major paid holidays which amounts to about 5 or 6.

401K plan......never heard of it.
