Why Bullish on Biom?

by tlc

Others will cover the technical aspects. My reasons are as follows:

1. Theratope is almost certainly non-toxic. This increases the probability of Phase III success and also that the eventual use could be by a much larger population than is actually being tested in Phase III.

2. The Phase II studies had encouraging results and indications are that the present formulation will be more effective.

3. If Theratope works at all, it should work better on low tumor loading. This gets at the real issue in breast cancer therapy, preventing remote metastisis or at least slowing it. Coupled with low toxicity, that could mean that ALL breast cancer patients would receive it in conjunction with other treatments.

4. Biomira stock should not be diluted before the results of Phase III are in. If the trial is successful, debt financing would be an option. Thus present stockholders could participate in more of the rise than is usual for these kinds of stocks.

Negative factors, IMHO outweighed by positive ones:

1. Chiron didn't assign a high priority on staying involved, for whatever reason.

2. Enrollment progress may be slow; publicity on it is lacking and the management doesn't seem to be very active in promoting it. There are several possible explanations for this, mostly bad.

3. In general, management hasn't shown enough initiative and drive. They may be brilliant and financially competent, but seem laissez-faire.
