Hi five right back at you Mike!

Seriously though, sometimes when I am sitting with my 3 young children at the local Macdee's, it bothers me a lot when I see parents demeaning their children verbally when they misbehave. And I've thought a few times, why don't you just give the kid a quick swat instead of endlessly assaulting him/her with your words.

I wonder, if we banned spanking would we one day ban verbal abuse and call it harassment?

Then if we ban verbal abuse, could we go even further and ban parents who insist kids clean their room because of child labor laws? This may seem patheticaly laughable, but I'll bet if I told my grandmother we would one day ban spanking, she would have thought it completely ridiculous.

The most important issue regarding child raising to me isn't spanking or occasionally hitting. But instead is focused on parents losing their rights and freedoms to raise their own families as they see fit.

Freedom from an onerous overindulgent government, looking for every reason under the sun to enter our homes and dictate "politically correct" behavior is far more hideous to me than a few swats on the behind.

Michael
