By the way, one of the things that interferes with these discussions is the prevalence of adages that are not true, but have been imbedded in many peoples brains as common sense. For example, "violence never solves anything." Well, actually, it solves many things. Through violence we defeated the Nazis, separated from the British, freed the slaves.....Another is "two wrongs don't make a right". True enough, but generally misapplied. If retribution is appropriate, it is not a wrong......Another is that "anger is destructive". Actually, anger is a motivation like any other. If you have to fight to save your life, anger is very useful. If it goads you to "show someone" by accomplishing things, then it is very constructive. In any event, anger is a perfectly appropriate emotional response in a variety of circumstances, and there is no more reason to feel ashamed merely because you "get mad" than there is because you laugh or cry..... |
