Islander, and others

many asked about efax, especially at the times it was very hot (ie in March, April 99). How would they make money?

They place ads on their fax views (ie, when you open a received fax), so you see an ad placed on the fax viewer. The number of hits (=opened faxes) should provide a base for ad revenues.

Secondly, they offer premium services at a small fee ($2.50) per month, hence raising some money that way.

Another angle is simply grow the user base until they are ripe for a takeout. That was a thought earlier (because MSFT paid a decent amount for hotmail), so efax & hotsend could be acquisition targets.
But, not much crystallized yet, so I take a wait & see attitude.

It is burning some money meanwhile - so it is possible that efax goes to the well one or another time, as they did in May. Given the amount they burned in the last 1/2 year, they have to do something....
