I really like the well-dressed panhandlers and always give them an upper or SSRI. The usual story in Honolulu is that they are small business entrepreneurs that are strapped for capital until their IPO next week. They usually are willing to allocate a few hundred shares to anyone who will lend them 20 dollars.
They are so much more pleasant (and better smelling) than the ordinary stinking, dirty schizophrenic. These guys can hardly carry on an intelligent conservation. Some of them are dangerous. There's one guy who sleeps in the garage of an Architecture firm across from my union hall. (He may actually be a partner!). Mumble, mumble. We give him leftover donuts and hot coffee and holiday presents. We encourage him to use our john (the alternative is unthinkable). I know we are just facilitating him by reinforcing his behavior. That's why we give money to the scammers. Maybe this schitz will catch on and start a web-advertising firm. We certainly hope so.
