Nazis and their ilk are considered right wing or conservative primarily because their main enemies were the Communists and Socialists (SDP in Germany). Hitler was put in power by von Papen and actually appointed (although he had no majority) by President Hindenberg. His strongest supporters at the time of his appointment were conservatives who were desperate to keep the SDP out of power. The refusal of the SDP to revolt in 1933 was a disaster, but they were unarmed and there was nothing they could do. One of the strongest arguments for the 2d Amendment is that if the SDP had been armed they could have seized the state (at least in Prussia) and would likely have won.
