Jeff, the specialists is not allowed to rip investors off. If you put in a market order on a $26 stock, the specialists cannot sell to you for $100 just because they feel like it. They have to believe that the price of the stock fairly represents that price needed to be charged in order to maintain an orderly market. If CS does not open around $28, the specialists can get in trouble for adding $2 to the stock price just because someone bought "at the market"..... there has to be a reason for the extra $2 at the end and that reason has to affect the price of CS before Monday's open.
