As far as Pfeiffer selling shares in January when he knew the price would drop - That has been suggested a number of places but the evidence does not support that.

Pfeiffer's sales over the years represented his sales of stock grants from his early days at CPQ - remember, Pfeiffer joined CPQ in the early 80's, so with a 10 year expiration on grants, he would have been REQUIRED to sell routinely just to keep from losing the stock. Also, he only had a few periods each hear to do that, basically within a few weeks after each earnings announcement. As far as I can tell, there was no change to that pattern in the months before Pfeiffer left CPQ, and he still holds most of the stock and options he was granted.

Mason was another story, he sold virtually his entire CPQ position shortly before he "leaked" the bad news.
