GlobalCenter shields customers from 56K controversy; First business Internet management provider helps companies make no-risk, higher-speed decision

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 1997-- GlobalCenter, Inc., the first Business Internet Management provider for growing businesses, today announced its intentions to deploy all evolving 56K modem technologies, giving its customers choice while guarding their equipment investment.

This strategy falls in line with the company's philosophy to take the complexity out of using the Internet for business by providing intuitive Internet management software, Web, and access solutions that require no MIS resources and allow companies to be live on the Internet in about an hour.

"So many small businesses adopt technology later rather than sooner and lose competitive advantage, employee productivity, and profits in the meantime," said Joel Davis, GlobalCenter's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing and Sales. "By ensuring that our customers can effectively use whatever modem choice they make for 56K, we can protect them from making a 'Beta vs. VHS' decision and risk being stuck with an obsolete product."

Pending deliverable products from the modem manufacturers, GlobalCenter plans to roll-out 56K implementations developed by Rockwell (K56PLUS), Lucent (V.flex), and US Robotics (X2) into its nationwide network on a metropolitan area basis beginning in June. Roll-out plans call for installation of redundant dial-up modem pools supporting all known standards within the company's major markets starting with Arizona, California, and the Chicago-area.

In this way, GlobalCenter customers can make their purchase decision without waiting for the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) standards decision; outcome of battles between rival manufacturer architecture decisions and incompatibility issues; resolution of incompatibility issues between user and provider equipment, and resolution of local loop infrastructure issues.

"We're making the investment in our network to ensure that customers have a choice as this higher speed technology evolves," said Nathan Raciborski, GlobalCenter president. "Customers should not have to get bogged down in industry issues, rather they should be free to implement the choice that best meets their requirements. It's our job as their provider to sift through the confusion, test the technology, and furnish viable solutions on their behalf."

Guaranteed Service Levels

The 56K connectivity will come bundled with GlobalCenter's recently announced PrimeClass service, which guarantees 99% network uptime weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and includes performance guarantees for the network as well as GlobalCenter customer response. Network performance guarantees include connection with any GlobalCenter POP within the first three attempts, and e-mail delivery through its network in under 10 minutes.

To ensure responsive support, customers will be assigned a special toll-free number staffed by experienced technical support representatives who will answer within two minutes during the 6-to-6 business time (customer time zone). Pricing for 56K service with PrimeClass will be announced when the service begins to roll-out in June.

PrimeClass supports GlobalCenter's philosophy to take the complexity out of using the Internet for business by providing intuitive Internet management software, Web, and connectivity solutions that require no MIS resources or upfront capital expenditures.
