Not sure why the winner takes all, especially given how new this B2B field is, and how much activity and interest there is in it. Things are still at a very early stage. Also, remember that suppliers in Freemarkets' auctions are carefully pre-qualified and invited by the company to participate. The auctions are closed to all others, happen over a short period in real time while the buyer watches, and can't even be monitored by non-participants. In other words, FMKT's auctions do not leverage the size and scale of the Internet, and in fact don't even depend on the Internet. This is quite different from the PCLN or EBAY models, that depend on the massive scale of the Net to exist.
