What university? It's important to know what university actually cares about the football players being able to pretend to write. I tutored football players years ago in chemistry. Imagine requiring football players to take chemistry, physics, and calculus (along with English, Social Science, Mechanical Drawing, Foreign language, Phys. Ed in the freshman year) and take off time for road and bowl games. Some of the guys were among the best and most organized students I have known. Most of the dumb ones never got in or dropped out quickly. They may have gone to your university <g>.
