Punjab University Fetes Son of The Soil
Punjab University in Chandigarh, India, has awarded the doctor of science (honoris causa) to Dr. Ashok Vijh, the Indo-Canadian professor from McGill University in Montreal. The degree was conferred on Vijh, a former student at Punjab University and now a leading scientist in electrochemistry, at its recent annual convocation.
M.M. Puri, vice chancellor called Vijh one of Canada's most celebrated scientists and one of the main architects of the renaissance of electrochemistry. He praised him as a physical chemist, whose research interests include interfacial electrochemistry and the chemical physics of solid surfaces.
Vijh's insight in adopting and adapting concepts and methodologies from solid state physics, applied from a physical chemistry perspective, has enabled him to make path-breaking and innovative contributions in the field.
Vijh, holds a Ph.D. in electrochemistry from the University of Ottawa. He has 300 publications to his credit. The many awards bestowed on him include the Prix Marie-Victorin, the most prestigious scientific prize in Quebec, and Compagnon de Lavoisier (Order of Chemists of Quebec).
