Hello Mike

Facility based-issues rarely win out over user-based issues because the cost of leaving it up to the end user is usually far less.

Can you please elaborate ? This has the sound of being
something very fundamental.

...because Yahoo! content doesn't change as much as the content on 500 television channels

I used Yahoo as a proxy for the web. Even within the limits
of Yahoo, there is a bewildering array of new content every
minute that would be hard to sift without personalization.

As a random observation, there was a time when I used to
check out a lot of new web sites, at least those that were
advertised. just for fun. Then, only those that someone
suggested as worth checking out. Now, I don't care - or,
can't afford. Personalization is the key now; One-to-One,
the next logical extension. You purchased a printer,
so you might be interested in paper now, ink cartridges
a little bit later, etc. etc.

From a different perspective, a big chunk of the TV content
is pre-recorded and waiting for the right time slot, based
upon the demographics and the cost. This may be the perfect
venue for 1-2-1 kind of personalization. This may even
work to lower the user acquisition costs for the producer.
