Activision's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater Tears Up North American Charts; Ultra-Realistic Skateboarding Game Hits #3 For the Month of November 1999

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Activision, Inc.'s (Nasdaq: ATVI - news) ultra-realistic skateboarding game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater has propelled to the top of North American retail sales charts becoming the #3 PlayStation® game console software title for the month of November, 1999, according to TRSTS Data.

Since its initial launch on September 29, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater has shipped more than 350,000 units in North America. The game, which currently is available in more than 10,000 retail outlets in the United States and Canada, was launched with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign that included broad-based television, print and online advertising, consumer and retail-specific promotions and in-store merchandising. The title carries a suggested retail price of $49.95.

''Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is already a favorite among PlayStation gamers,'' states Mitch Lasky, executive vice president, Activision Studios. ''By using input from the pros, Activision was able to recreate the athletics and culture of this popular sport. ''

Developed for Activision by Neversoft Entertainment, the game features hundreds of signature moves, allowing players to skate forwards, backwards and perform combos on the fly including airs, grabs, slides, grinds, kick-flips and landing tricks. An intuitive game interface and easy learning curve lets players gradually progress to more difficult stunts. The game also features Hawk's 900 degrees (two and half rotations while airborne) -- a move that has never been accomplished until he recently performed it at the 1999 ESPN Summer X-Games.

Based in Woodland Hills, California, Neversoft Entertainment is a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision, Inc.
