The awards recognize ``best-of-breed' data communications technologies designed for next generation networks.
``Winning this award highlights GDC's dedication to developing complete innovative interactive multimedia solutions that deliver high-quality real-time applications such as distance learning, tele-medicine and video conferencing,' said Dr. Shaker Sabri, general manager and vice president of GDC's Multimedia Division headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. ``All of us at GDC are honored by this 'Product of the Year Award;`` this is important recognition of an outstanding product.'
``General DataComm's MAC 500 multimedia access concentrator distinguishes itself as one of the most forward thinking and useful products announced in the field of voice/video/data convergence - a field that is abundant with new products,' said Rich Tehrani, TMC president and group publisher. ``The Product of the Year Award, selected by the editors of CTI and the engineers of TMC Labs, is given to those select products that deserve the attention of innovative organizations looking for best-of-breed solutions.'

The MAC 500 concentrates video, audio and IP traffic onto either a DS3 or OC-3c/STM-1 ATM network interface. Its 10/100 Ethernet interface supports IP-over-ATM for Internet access, data collaboration and other IP applications.
Featuring a modular, scalable architecture that grows with customers' needs, the MAC 500 conforms to the latest LAN, WAN and multimedia standards to ensure interoperability across an entire network. An integral SNMP agent allows management by any standard SNMP manager. The MAC 500 is managed by GDC's ProSphere© network management application suite.
