The card that launched Internet streaming video adds sound ViewCast.com Inc. (Nasdaq:VCST) announces the Osprey-200, a new low-cost, high-performance video and audio capture card for Internet streaming video.
The Osprey-200 adds sound to the Osprey-100, known as the de facto standard for creating Internet streaming video, with an estimated 30,000 units sold to OEMs and end-users. Osprey cards are used with Microsoft Windows Media and RealNetworks streaming media products.
"Osprey cards have always provided excellent performance for our customers, and we are pleased to see ViewCast.com add great audio capture to the Osprey line," said Dave Fester, director of marketing for the Streaming Media Division at Microsoft Corp. "The Osprey-200 will now allow our customers to take full advantage of the Windows Media CD-quality audio technology in addition to the superior video capabilities already available."
The Osprey-200 is optimized for networked video applications, particularly streaming media, but it is flexible enough to also support videoconferencing, distance learning, telemedicine, internal employee communications, security surveillance, and many others. "We?re combining the communications power of video with the low-cost distribution channel of the World Wide Web," says Neal Page, vice president of ViewCast.com?s Osprey division. "The Osprey-100 has dominated the market for Internet streaming video content creation. With its advanced sound capabilities, the Osprey-200 will build on this foundation, making Internet streaming video a major business communications tool."
The Osprey-200 captures TV-quality video directly from a camcorder, desktop camera, VCR or DVD player and displays it uncompressed at 30 frames per second (fps). Captured video can be converted to popular Internet/intranet streaming formats, such as Microsoft Windows Media and RealNetworks G2 Streaming Media. Multiple Osprey-200 cards can be used to stream multiple video and audio sources on a single Windows NT workstation.
The Osprey-200 runs on Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT 4.0 with support for Direct Draw. It is capable of providing maximum frames-per-second performance while leaving the CPU power for other simultaneous tasks, such as common business applications. On systems supporting Direct Draw, the Osprey-200 delivers 640 x 480 video to the screen at 30 fps, with CPU utilization of around one percent.
The Osprey-200 is available immediately for $199 through Osprey distributors and resellers worldwide. Volume discounts are available.
