I believe that the network that ATHM has just put in place (dual OC48) was done so by a standard lease agreement. 10 or 20 years (same difference) term. I don't think that ATHM has restrictions on what they can do with their network. ATHM had RFP's with several carriers and T was best.

What you are outlining seems to imply that this backbone network is corrupted in some way by being closed and not accessible. My understanding is that it is simply a state of the art, redundant and scalable backbone network that has been put in place in order to support the traffic needs of ATHM in the coming years. What are they doing that they shouldn't in order to support their growing business?
