I don't have the answers only some speculation. By spread I assume you mean the high and low for the day though the spread between the bid and ask is irrational many days. I have not seen the volume data on an inter-day basis but I would speculate that a lot of today's huge volume was on the buy side early and then those who have a loss from a long term position or a nice gain from a recent position used this opportunity to bail. But hopefully the buy-side activity were position trades which takes out float and makes it ever harder to get shares without running up the stock. If we continue to have high volume days like today I would expect more wide swings in price as shares get more expensive. Once day traders take to this stock anything can happen. The momentum in volume and price could take on a life of its own. As far as earnings go, I am not sure when the next announcement is.
