Excuse me for butting in. Generally, the assets would first be separated from the company, with new corporate officers, etc. Then there would be an IPO, of say 20% of the shares in the NEW company. Within a year, the remainder of the shares would be distributed to Intel stockholders.

Intel shareholders would benefit at the IPO, note the appreciation of HWP shares when the Aligent IPO took place (even though the shares haven't been distributed to date).
