Welcome to the thread. I never thought of trying to call FAO Schwarz and ordering from them. Thanks for the suggestion. For anyone else interested in ordering a tamagotchi from FAO Schwarz, I found out a few things in trying to order from them:
1. If you call their 1-800-426-8697 number, you can only order things that are in their catalog. If you call the FAO Scwarz store in Manhattan ((212) 644-9400) you can order directly.
2. You have to order a minimum of 10 tamagotchis at one time. Sigh! At least the order lady knew what a tamagotchi was :-)
3. If you do call the Manhattan store to order directly, after dialing in, press option 2 for Customer Service/Shopping, and again option 2 to place an order. You will then leave a message with the item you are requesting, how many of the item you want, description, etc., your name, shipping and billing addresses, a phone number where you can be reached, and your credit card number and expiration date. Then an operator will call back later to verify your order.
I left my order on Friday morning at 11 AM Eastern time, and was called back at about 10 PM Eastern time. It was then I found out the bad news that I had to order 10!
If anyone else here wants a tamagotchi now instead of after June 15, I am proposing a group order (I have never done this before -- hopefully I won't regret it :-)). If you are interested, please send me e-mail at kdpears@lookout.mnet.uswest.com and let me know how many tamagotchis you want and which color(s) you want. I don't know if we can specify colors, but it's worth a shot. If I don't get interest for at least 10 tamagotchis by May 5, I'll call the group order off. If I do get enough orders, I will then need everyone interested to send me a check for $17.99 (FAO Schwarz's price for a tamagotchi) for each tamagotchi you want, plus $5 for each tamagotchi to hopefully cover shipping from FAO Schwarz to me and then from me to you. I will send you a check for whatever part of the $5 I don't need if shipping is cheaper than that. To cover myself, I want to make sure all the checks clear, and then I will place the order. I hope those terms are ok. If you want to arrange some other details to feel secure in this order, please contact me and we can work out something. I assure you that I am honest and will not make any money off of this -- I just want a tamagotchi NOW and need your help! :-) My wife and I want 2 tamagotchi's, so we only need 8 more for an order. Please let me know.
