Very humorous, JCJ. Of course, I must succeed with MSFT every day in my new job -- in my old I had to succeed with SUNW. But, I do my part -- I wage the battle on grounds of multi-platform compatibility and raise the question "Do we really want to EXCLUDE a large segment of potential customers by going with a solution that only works on certain machines???" It's a pretty convincing argument, since I'm at a level where my bosses don't give a damn about java or NT or beans or VBscript -- all they care about is profits for our company. They frown when they hear that a proposed solution would mean they can't approach certain potential customers they'd love to win over to our product.

I've been absent from SI -- incredible year-end deadlines, etc. Do I qualify as one of the newbies you want to keep on the thread?

Gotta go to bed to be ready for tomorrow's battle: trying to convince the old guard that the new way (Java, Javascript, XML, distributed processing, web-based user interfaces, etc.) is the way we must go if we are to stay ahead of our competitors. Unfortunately, MSFT has control of much of the territory here. It's a war, indeed!

I have new things on the site (if you care).
