First 3D animation film completed

MUMBAI: The world's first 3 dimension animation feature film 'Dhanbad--Beyond the Veil of Mists' is all set to create history in the country's special effect film making scenario with its release on December 24. The production of the film was done by Pentafour Software Exports Ltd, India's leading software exporters, on silicon graphics visual workstations from SGI-India, reports PTI.
Addressing a press conference, V Chandrasekeran, chairman and managing director, Pentafour, said 'right from the start we were confident that this could be done in India by us with Indian animators. In order to be able to make a true presence in the international market, we opted for technology, which had never before been used for feature film making'.
"At the end, we were able to deliver near life animation and complete the film in a record time of 18 months, which is much less than normal period of 30 months", he said. Dr Prasad V Medury, managing director, SGI-India, a subsidiary of the US graphic technology giant SGI, said the film was completed by first making 3D models in computer and live action motion by people, then connect these two using specialised hardware and software. "It is for the first time this technology was used for films", he said.
'Dhanbad', shot in India and America, was made at a cost of US dollar 30 million and of this, around US$14 million went to Pentafour, Chandrasekeran said. SGI was also involved in the creation of animation films 'Jurassic Park', 'Antz' and 'A Bug's Life'. |
