Lizzie, I was in Dublin last April, and it seems very open and free to me there. While it is true that the Catholic Church still has a lot of influence in more conservative, rural areas, in Dublin the pace of life is very fast, there are single people of all descriptions living everywhere in every configuration imaginable, and there seems to be a pagan revival going on as the Church is rejected for its hypocrisy over all the sexual molestations and the Bishop of Galway's illegitimate child, etc.

Where did you get your information on all this? The high tech industry is in full swing over there, there are so many jobs that Irish young people who have been living in America are moving back, and no one wants jobs in hotels or restaurants so youth from continental Europe are swarming over there. The social climate seems very tolerant, and there are a lot of "out" gays and lesbians as well.
