It's more likely they'll pick up the R&D. That's what Nokia did when Nortel's handset division went down - they bought the R&D people. The handset division itself is going to demand a huge investment from the acquirer and melding two product lines is extremely hard, since most of the components are incompatible. I'd rather see some Asian company sink a couple of billions in this particular swamp. Engineers are hard to find these days, so R&D acquisitions like the Nortel move make more sense.
