BE SELECTED BY QUBIT AS STANDARD PLATFORM FOR NEW WIRELESS INTERNET APPLIANCE BUSINESS EDITORS/HIGH-TECH WRITERS MENLO PARK, CALIF., AND DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DEC. 21, 1999--BE INCORPORATED

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MENLO PARK, Calif., and DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 21,
1999--Be Incorporated (Nasdaq: BEOS.O) today announced Qubit
Technology's selection of Be's software platform for Internet
Appliances, code-named Stinger, for its forthcoming wireless Web
Tablet. Qubit selected Be for the completeness of its offering, its
unrivaled Internet and media handling capabilities and the full range
of complementary application and integration services available. Under
the terms of the agreement, Be will also deliver custom interface
design services for Qubit's Web Tablet. Additionally, the companies
are engaged in collaborative sales, marketing and development efforts.
Qubit is working with organizations that include financial and
telecommunications companies who are expected to bring these devices
to market. Qubit expects to deliver the first devices under the
agreement in the second quarter of 2000.
"Our agreement with Qubit represents the first implementation of
the National Semiconductor WebPAD(TM) reference design we announced in
November," said Steve Sakoman, chief technical officer and general
manager of Be's Internet Appliance efforts. "Stinger is the ideal
complement to Qubit's wireless Web Tablet, offering third parties a
highly adaptable and easily configurable solution with a substantial
time-to-market advantage."
"Be is ahead of the competition in delivering a full Internet
experience," said David L. Armitage, president and CEO of Qubit
Technology. "Our new relationship with Be solidifies Qubit's 'no
compromise attitude' towards the Internet experience and gives us the
opportunity to provide wireless Internet solutions with the support of
an industry leader."
Stinger is Be's software solution designed for the creation of
appliances that deliver information and entertainment over the web.
Based on BeOS, Stinger is fully customizable, offers a complete
browser and supports popular streaming audio and video standards.
Roughly the size of a magazine, Qubit's Web Tablet delivers
Internet access from anywhere in the user's home without the
complications often associated with personal computers. These devices
can be used to browse the Internet, along with basic applications such
as email, messaging and home scheduling and address books.
The tablet incorporates a 10.4-inch, 800x600 color LCD display
with a high-resolution touch screen and a stand on the back of the
tablet for easy tabletop viewing. The cradle and tablet are designed
to keep countertop sprawl to a minimum, taking up less than six by 12
inches. The lightweight tablet weighs less than two and a half pounds
and features built-in high-quality stereo speakers and a microphone. A
wireless infrared keyboard is also included.
