OT So much for Dell and their direct model.
Part of the direct model is shipping orders when expected and at one time. This part really applies to large customers who order a bunch of machines (maybe 100 or more at a time). These get built together, shipped together, and arrive together with any monitors, software etc.

To make this part work for big customers, the individual buyer gets his machine built between orders and while the big orders are being setup. This usually means the individual is moved to the front of the queue and receives the order in a day or two from being placed. The fact that individuals are being pushed back says to me that demand is very great, the big players probably are asking for delivery before the first of the year.
