One thing I notice about the "new SI" lately, aside from the sometimes slow to no response, some of the features seem to disappear under load. Particularly the "next 10 messages", which mostly comes up empty for me during the day. This seems to be another indication that the new interface is overloading the db backend, versus the old.

On sharing the cable modem, you'll need 2 NICs and a crossover cable at least. That is, you need 3 NICs all together, 2 in the PC that connects to the cable and one in the other. For future expansion, you might want to just get a small 100bt hub or switch, even, everything is cheap these days. There are kits available too, that have everything in one package.

Then, there are the software issues, Win98 SE has the right software to share the internet connection built in, although I'm not sure how easy to use it is. It's supposed to be better than the add on packages, though. The impending Win2k is supposed to have easier setup, but there are other "issues" there you probably don't want to know about. I use Linux for the forwarding, but I wouldn't recommend it without an advisor close at hand.

Should be an educational experience for the kids, though. Sorry for the geek talk, I'll dig up a URL if you want more info.

Cheers, Dan.
