That's just wishful M$FT thinking unrelated to reality. It's not an either-or situation. The paradigm continues to shift. The internet continues to grow. Appliances continue to be built. ASP's continue to get their act together. Corporations continue to move their intranets to the new paradigm. SUNW continues to sell servers. The center of gravity continues to shift.

Meanwhile, another M$FT glorified bug-fix release is gratefully received by its abused captive audience. M$FT can sell bits without the future coming to a halt. W2k closes no window on anything.

It's a matter of technology space-time. 2000, which is now literally tomorrow, is too soon for the balance of power to shift to anything that doesn't have critical mass today.

2001, however, isn't. That's when I predict it will happen.
