In all due respect putting a packet card in a circuit switch doesn't make the 5E anymore a packet oriented product than an placing ATM SAR in a router makes a router a ATM switch.

I think you have a pretty good understanding the market and the technology but you're rolling this pup the way you want to see it. I do think the 7R/E is an excellent vehicle for LU to hang onto their installed base and keep customers locked into the 5E's...and for the customer to extend the life of their investment. It allows LU to compare the cost of the 7R/E card versus a 5E replacement solution which LU should win everytime......if the functionality and performance is equivalent or at least close. Time will tell if this "jury rigged" product extension will allow LU to continue their smooth migration. So far they're doing a good job.
